History

How Trend Micro Started (1988–1999)

Trend Micro was started in 1988 in Los Angeles, USA. The founders were Steve Chang, his wife Jenny Chang, and her sister Eva Chen. They used money from a previous business venture to begin the company. Soon after starting, the founders moved their main office to Taipei, Taiwan.

In 1992, Trend Micro grew by taking over a Japanese software company. This led to the creation of Trend Micro Devices, and a new main office was set up in Tokyo, Japan.
