History of Trion
The town of Trion began in the 1840s. This was when the Trion Mills cotton mill was built. A post office opened in 1847, first called Trion Factory. Later, in 1904, its name changed to Trion.
The name "Trion" was chosen by the mill's three founders. Their names were Andrew Allgood, Spencer Marsh, and W.K. Briers. They picked "Trion" to celebrate their partnership. The state government of Georgia officially made Trion a town in 1862. The original mill burned down in 1875. However, it was rebuilt and grew into what is now the Mount Vernon Mill No. 3.
