How Tropical Storm Bret Formed
Tropical Depression Two started from a tropical wave. This happened over the Bay of Campeche on June 28. It quickly grew stronger and became Tropical Storm Bret.
Bret then moved steadily towards land. It made landfall near Tuxpan, Veracruz in eastern Mexico. This happened early on June 29. Its winds were about 40 mph (65 km/h).
Bret quickly lost strength as it moved inland. It brought heavy rain to Mexico's eastern coast. The storm disappeared over the mountains in central Mexico late on June 29.
Impacts of Tropical Storm Bret
Tropical Storm Bret caused about $9 million in damages. This happened in Mexico in 2005. Most of the damage came from floods and landslides. These were caused by the very heavy rain.
Several towns were badly flooded. These included Naranjos and Chinampa. They are located south of Tampico. The Río Tancochin river overflowed its banks. About 3,000 homes were damaged by the storm.
Sadly, two people died because of Bret. They were in a car that was swept away by floodwaters. This happened in the town of Naranjos.
