Troy Michael Davis was born on January 6, 1991. He is an American former professional football player. Troy played as a linebacker in both the National Football League (NFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played college football for the UCF Knights. After college, he joined the NFL's New York Jets in 2013. He was an undrafted free agent, meaning a team signed him even though he wasn't picked in the main draft. Troy also played for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. Later, he played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL.

Early Life and High School Football
Troy Davis grew up in Lilburn, Georgia. He went to Berkmar High School. In 2007, he was named the Academic Athlete of the Year. This award showed he was great at both sports and school. During his junior year, he received an honorable mention for his football skills. In his senior year, he was named a first-team all-county linebacker. This means he was one of the best linebackers in his area.
College Football Career
Troy Davis played college football for the UCF Knights. He showed great improvement throughout his college years.
Freshman Year (2009)
In his first year, Troy played in 10 games. However, he did not record any official statistics during this season.
Sophomore Year (2010)
During his second year, Troy played in 14 games. He made 26 tackles and had 5.5 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. He also forced one fumble, deflected 6 passes, and made one interception.
Junior Year (2011)
In his third year, Troy played in 12 regular season games. He recorded 29 tackles, 5 sacks, and 2 pass deflections. He also forced one fumble. After this season, he was chosen for Phil Steele's All-C-USA Third-team. This is an honor for top players in his college conference.
Senior Year (2012)
Troy's senior year was his best in college. He played in 14 games and made a career-high 72 tackles. He also had 8 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 4 pass deflections. He was selected for both the All-C-USA First-team and Phil Steele's All-C-USA First-team. On December 19, 2012, he was named UCF's Outstanding Defensive Lineman at the UCF Football Awards Banquet.
Professional Football Career
After college, Troy Davis went on to play professional football in both the NFL and CFL.
New York Jets (2013–2014)
On April 27, 2013, Troy signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent. He was released from the main team on August 31, 2013. However, he was signed to the team's practice squad the very next day. A practice squad is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the active roster.
Troy was released from the practice squad on September 25, 2013. But he was re-signed to the squad on October 2, 2013. Ten days later, on October 12, he was moved up to the active roster. This meant he could play in real games. Troy made his NFL debut on October 27, 2013, against the Cincinnati Bengals. He played on special teams, where he made two tackles and returned a kickoff for 7 yards. He was released by the Jets on August 30, 2014.
Dallas Cowboys (2014–2015)
The Dallas Cowboys signed Troy Davis to their practice squad on October 21, 2014. He stayed with the team for a while before the Cowboys waived him on May 8, 2015.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2015–2016)
On September 27, 2015, Troy signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was on their practice roster. Troy was activated to play in the East Division Final game on November 21, 2015. However, he did not record any statistics in that game. He signed a contract extension with the Tiger-Cats on December 16, 2015. But he was released during their training camp on June 15, 2016.
Toronto Argonauts (2016–2019)
On October 7, 2016, Troy signed with the Toronto Argonauts, another team in the CFL. On November 26, 2017, his Toronto Argonauts team won the Grey Cup, which is the championship trophy of the CFL. The game was played in Ottawa. Troy was released by the Argonauts on June 1, 2019, and he retired from playing football after that.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Troy Davis began coaching. On April 23, 2022, he was hired by Seckinger High School. He currently works there as an inside linebackers coach.
Personal Life
Troy Davis is the son of Oneal Murphy and Keisha Davis. While in college, he studied sports and exercise science.
