Lilburn is a city in Gwinnett County, Georgia, United States. In 2020, about 14,500 people lived there. Lilburn is part of the larger Atlanta metropolitan area. The city's motto is "Small town, Big difference."

History of Lilburn
The city of Lilburn began in 1890. It was founded by the Seaboard Air Line Railway. The area was first called "McDaniel." It was later renamed "Lilburn" after Lilburn Trigg Myers. He was a general superintendent for the railroad from Virginia. The town officially became a city on July 27, 1910.
In the 1920s, a big fire and tough economic times hurt the city. But now, the old historic area is lively again. It has new shops and restaurants. This part of town is called the Old Town district. People describe it as a "slice of history."
Exploring Lilburn's Geography
Lilburn is located in the western part of Gwinnett County. It sits at coordinates 33°53′20″N 84°8′27″W. U.S. Route 29 (Lawrenceville Highway) goes through the middle of the city. This road leads southwest about 19 miles to downtown Atlanta. It also goes northeast about 11 miles to Lawrenceville, which is the main city in Gwinnett County.
The United States Census Bureau says Lilburn covers about 6.5 square miles (16.5 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a small part, about 0.82%, is water.
City Landmarks and Special Places
Lilburn's downtown area is getting a fresh new look. The city has already built a new city hall and library. They also changed how Main Street connects with US 29. This project includes many miles of walking and biking paths. These paths are called the Greenway Trail. Old bridges from the early 1900s, known as the Prohibition Trail Bridges, are also being rebuilt.
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Atlanta is a very special building in Lilburn. It is about two miles southwest of the city center. This temple is the tallest building in Lilburn. For a while, it was the largest Swaminarayan temple outside of India. Another temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey, opened in 2014 and is now larger.
