Sean Everet Johnson (born May 31, 1989) is an American professional soccer player. He plays as a goalkeeper for the Major League Soccer team Toronto FC. Sean also plays for the United States national team.

Sean Johnson's Soccer Journey
Early Life and College Days
Sean Johnson grew up in Lilburn, Georgia. He went to Brookwood High School there. For a short time, he also attended high school in California. He finished high school in 2005.
After high school, Sean moved to Florida. He played college soccer at the University of Central Florida. He was a great player there. In 2008, he was named his team's Most Valuable Player (MVP). He also made the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Sean decided to leave college early to become a professional player. He joined the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. During his college years, he also played one season for the Atlanta Blackhawks. This was an amateur team in the USL Premier Development League.
Becoming a Professional Goalkeeper
Sean Johnson was picked by Chicago Fire in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. He was the 51st player chosen overall. He made his first Major League Soccer (MLS) game on August 1, 2010. His team, Chicago Fire, won that game 3–2 against Los Angeles Galaxy.
In his first year, Sean won "Save of the Week" two times in a row. This award is for the best save by a goalkeeper in a week. In 2013, he was named the Chicago Fire's Defender of the Year. He played 176 games for the Chicago Fire.
On December 11, 2016, Sean moved to Atlanta United. But on the same day, he was traded to New York City FC. He played many games for NYCFC, making 206 appearances. He helped them win the MLS Cup in 2021. This is a big championship in MLS.
On January 27, 2023, Sean signed a two-year contract with Toronto FC. He continues to play as their goalkeeper.
Playing for His Country
Sean Johnson has citizenship in both the United States and Jamaica. He had tryouts with Jamaica's youth teams when he was younger.
He played for the U.S. Under-20 team in 2009. He also played for the U.S. Under-23 team in 2012. This team tried to qualify for the Olympic Games.
Sean played his first game for the senior United States national team on January 22, 2011. He came into the game against Chile at halftime.
He was part of the U.S. team that won the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup. He started his first game for the national team on July 17, 2013. He helped the U.S. win 1–0 against Costa Rica. In that game, he made an important save that led to the winning goal. This game also officially tied him to playing for the United States.
In 2022, Sean was chosen for the United States team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He was a backup goalkeeper and did not play in the tournament. He also won the 2022-23 CONCACAF Nations League with the U.S. team, even though he didn't play in the final games.
