Exploring Tuan's Location
Tuan is a coastal town, which means it's right next to the water! To the east, Tuan touches the beautiful Great Sandy Strait. This is a narrow stretch of ocean between the mainland and Fraser Island.
Two creeks also help define Tuan's area. Big Tuan Creek forms the southern edge of the town, while Little Tuan Creek is on the northern side. The main part of Tuan town is found right on the eastern shore, close to the strait.
Tuan's Name: A Glimpse into History
The name "Tuan" comes from an Aboriginal word. It's from a Sydney dialect and means "Brush-tailed phascogale". A phascogale is a small, furry marsupial, a bit like a tiny possum, that lives in trees. It's cool how the town's name connects to Australian wildlife!
