The Stream's Journey
Tunis Run starts in a valley between two mountains: McCall Mountain and Hough Mountain in Miles Township.
How Tunis Run Flows
The stream first flows west for a short distance. Then, it receives water from an unnamed smaller stream joining from its left side. After that, Tunis Run turns north and then northeast, continuing through a valley between McCall Mountain and Hall Mountain.
Further along, another unnamed stream joins Tunis Run from its right side. Tunis Run then turns northwest for a bit, leaving its valley. Finally, it turns northeast again. After flowing for a short distance more, Tunis Run reaches its end where it flows into White Deer Creek. Tunis Run joins White Deer Creek about 25.62 miles (41.23 km) before White Deer Creek reaches its own end.
Smaller Streams Joining In
Tunis Run does not have any named smaller streams joining it. However, it does have two unnamed tributaries. One of these smaller streams joins Tunis Run about 1.04 miles (1.67 km) upstream from where Tunis Run meets White Deer Creek.
Where Tunis Run Is Located
The lowest point of Tunis Run, where it meets White Deer Creek, is about 1,506 feet (459 m) above sea level. The highest point, where the stream begins, is about 1,777 feet (542 m) above sea level.
Tunis Run is found near a geographical feature known as Hough Gap.
The Tunis Run Watershed
The watershed of Tunis Run is the entire area of land where all the rain and snowmelt drain into this stream. This area covers about 1.43 square miles (3.7 km2).
The end of Tunis Run is located in the area shown on a map called the Loganton quadrangle by the United States Geological Survey. However, the beginning of the stream is on the Woodward quadrangle map. The mouth of the stream is also close to the town of Loganton.
History of Tunis Run
Tunis Run was officially added to the Geographic Names Information System on August 2, 1979. This system keeps track of names and locations for geographical features in the United States. Its special ID number in the system is 1189919.
In the past, a short branch of a railroad line was built very close to Tunis Run.
Wildlife in Tunis Run
Wild trout fish naturally live and reproduce in Tunis Run. They can be found all along the stream, from where it starts to where it ends.
One of the unnamed smaller streams that flows into Tunis Run (the one joining about 1.04 miles (1.67 km) upstream from Tunis Run's mouth) is being looked at by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. They are thinking about officially calling it "wild trout waters." This means it would be recognized as a special place where wild trout live and reproduce. This smaller stream was studied on June 26, 2013, and on January 20, 2015, it was listed as being considered for this important designation.
