Turner County is a special area called a county in the middle of southern Georgia. In 2020, about 9,000 people lived here. The main town, or county seat, is Ashburn.

Turner County was created a long time ago, on August 18, 1905. It was named after Henry G. Turner. He was an important person who worked in the U.S. government and also served as a judge on Georgia's highest court, the Georgia State Supreme Court.

About the Land and Water

Turner County covers about 290 square miles. Most of this area, about 285 square miles, is land. The rest, about 4.6 square miles, is water. That's about 1.6% of the total area.

The eastern part of Turner County has rivers that flow into the Alapaha River. This river is part of the larger Suwannee River system. The southern and western parts of the county also have rivers that flow into the Little River, which is also part of the Suwannee River system. The far western edge of Turner County is part of the Flint River area. This river is part of a very large river system called the ACF River Basin.
