The 2-mile run is a classic running race. It's a distance of about 3.2 kilometers, or 3,218.688 meters. This race has a long history, especially in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom. Even though other distances like the 3000-meter and 5000-meter races are more common now, the 2-mile run is still held at some special events.

The main organization for athletics, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), doesn't officially track "world records" for the 2-mile run anymore. Instead, they call them "world bests."

The fastest time ever for men in the 2-mile run is 7 minutes and 54.10 seconds. This amazing time was set by Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway on June 9, 2023. He and Daniel Komen are the only runners who have finished the 2-mile race in under 8 minutes. This means they ran each mile faster than 4 minutes on average!

For women, the fastest time is 8 minutes and 58.58 seconds. This was achieved by Meseret Defar from Ethiopia on September 14, 2007.
