Rashid Ramzi (Arabic: رشيد رمزي) was born on July 17, 1980. He is a talented track and field athlete. He was born in Morocco and later became a citizen of Bahrain. He competed for Bahrain in races like the 800 metres and 1500 metres.
Rashid Ramzi became very successful in Asia. He won gold medals at the Asian Athletics Championships and the 2002 Asian Games. He also set a new Asian indoor record for the 800 metres. This helped him win a silver medal at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships. This was his first big medal on the world stage. He also competed in the 2004 Athens Olympics.
The next year, in 2005, he reached the top of his sport. He won both the 800 metres and 1500 metres races at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. He was the first man ever to win both these races at the same World Championships!
He won a silver medal in the 1500 metres at the 2007 World Championships. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, he won a gold medal in the 1500 metres. This was the first Olympic medal ever for Bahrain at the Olympics. However, his result was later changed. He was not allowed to compete for two years because of a rule violation involving a banned substance.

Rashid Ramzi's Athletic Journey
Starting His Career
Rashid Ramzi grew up in Safi, Morocco. He first competed for Morocco. In 1999, he won a silver medal in the 1500 metres at the 1999 African Junior Athletics Championships. In 2001, he won the national championships in Morocco.
In 2002, he joined the Bahraini armed forces and became a citizen of Bahrain. He started competing for Bahrain right away. He won a silver medal at the 2002 Asian Athletics Championships. Then, he won a gold medal in the 1500 metres at the 2002 Asian Games.
In 2003, he won three more gold medals in the 1500 metres. These wins were at the Pan Arab Athletics Championships, the Gulf Cooperation Council Championships, and the 2003 Asian Athletics Championships.
Competing on the World Stage
In 2004, Rashid Ramzi began to compete more on the world stage. He won gold medals in both the 800 metres and 1500 metres at the 2004 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships. He even set a new Asian record for the 800 metres.
The next month, he won a silver medal at the 2004 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He improved his 800 metres record there. He also won his first Golden League race in Rome. Later that year, he represented Bahrain at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He reached the semi-finals of the 1500 metres race.
Becoming a Double World Champion
At the 2005 World Championships in Athletics, Rashid Ramzi achieved something amazing. He won gold medals in both the 800 m and 1500 m races. Only one other person, Peter Snell, had done this at a major world competition before.
After this, he won a bronze medal at the 2006 Asian Games. In 2007, he won a silver medal in the 1500 metres at the World Championships. The next year, he won gold at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. However, as mentioned, his Olympic title was later changed due to a rule violation.
