Twycross is a small village in Leicestershire, England. It is located in the Hinckley and Bosworth area, near the border with North Warwickshire. In 2011, about 850 people lived here.

Twycross is known for a few things. It is home to the famous Twycross Zoo. It also has a private school called Twycross House School. The village is part of a larger area called a civil parish. This parish includes nearby villages like Norton Juxta Twycross and Orton on the Hill. It also has smaller areas called hamlets, such as Little Orton and Little Twycross.

Sports and Fun

Twycross has its own cricket club. It's a village club with two main teams. These teams play in the Leicestershire Senior League. The first team often plays in the top division. The second team plays in division 3.

The club also has a Sunday team. This team plays many friendly games during the cricket season. Young players can join too. There are teams for under-15, under-13, and under-11 players.

Amazing Stained Glass

The church in Twycross is called St. James. It holds some very old and special stained glass. This glass is believed to be the oldest in England. It originally came from famous places in France. These places include Sainte-Chapelle, Saint-Denis, and Le Mans Cathedral.

The oldest pieces of glass are from around 1145. They came from Saint-Denis. They were given to King William IV. He then gave them to Earl Howe. Earl Howe hired a glass expert named Thomas Willement. Willement arranged and put the glass into the church. This happened when the church was being fixed up in the 1840s.

Video Game Creators

Twycross is also where a well-known video game company is located. This company is called Rare. Rare makes many popular video games. It is owned by Xbox Game Studios.

Twycross History

The name 'Twycross' comes from its location. The village center is where three roads meet. The A444 road connects Twycross to Burton-on-Trent and Coventry. The B4116 and B4114 roads lead to Birmingham.

On April 1, 1935, some nearby areas joined Twycross. The parishes of Gopsall, Norton juxta Twycross, and Orton on the Hill became part of Twycross.
