He played for the Kings for two seasons. In 2013, he moved to Europe to play for EuroLeague teams like Khimki and Anadolu Efes.

In his first year at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) during the 2009–10 season, Honeycutt played in 26 games. He started 18 of those games. He was the team's best rebounder, getting 6.5 rebounds per game. He was also named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

In the next season, Tyler was named the team's co-MVP. He averaged 12.8 points per game. He also led the Pac-10 conference in blocks, with 2.1 blocks per game. After this season, he decided to enter the NBA draft. Many thought he would be picked early in the draft. However, some worries about his playing consistency caused him to be picked later. The Sacramento Kings chose him as the 35th overall pick.

Professional Basketball Career

Playing for the Sacramento Kings (2011–2013)

Tyler Honeycutt was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the 2011 NBA draft. He played his first NBA game on December 31, 2011. He scored two points in just four minutes. On January 1, 2012, Honeycutt was sent to the Reno Bighorns. This team is part of the NBA D-League, which helps players develop their skills. The Kings called him back to their team on January 24.

During the 2012–13 season, Honeycutt was again sent to the Bighorns on November 7. He was then called back by the Kings on December 17.

Time with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (2013)

On February 20, 2013, Honeycutt was traded to the Houston Rockets. He was traded along with Thomas Robinson and Francisco García. In return, the Kings received Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas, and Cole Aldrich. Tyler played only 24 games with the Kings in two seasons. This was due to injuries and his time in the D-League.

On February 24, Houston sent him to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. This was another D-League team. The Rockets then released him on March 5 to sign another player. After that, he rejoined the Vipers.

Playing in Israel with Ironi Nes Ziona (2013–2014)

In August 2013, Honeycutt signed with Ironi Nes Ziona. This team had just moved up to the top league in Israel, called the Israeli Super League.

Success with Khimki (2014–2016)

On July 8, 2014, Tyler signed a two-year contract with the Russian team Khimki. In the 2014–15 season, he helped Khimki win the Eurocup championship. This is Europe's second-highest basketball competition. In the 2015–16 Euroleague, he played in Europe's top competition for the first time. He averaged 6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in 23 EuroLeague games.

Playing for Anadolu Efes (2016–2017)

On July 22, 2016, Honeycutt signed a deal with the Turkish club Anadolu Efes. There, he won the Slam Dunk Contest in the Turkish Basketball Super League. In 35 EuroLeague games, he had his best career averages. He scored 9.2 points, grabbed 7.3 rebounds, and made 2 assists per game. On June 28, 2017, Efes decided not to continue his contract, and he became a free agent.

Return to Khimki (2017–2018)

On July 14, 2017, Honeycutt went back to Moscow-based Khimki. He signed a contract for the 2017–18 season. He missed the first nine games of the EuroLeague season because of an injury. He returned to play in late November 2017. He helped Khimki reach the 2018 EuroLeague Playoffs. They lost to CSKA Moscow in the quarterfinal series. In 17 EuroLeague games, he averaged 9.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. In the 2017–18 VTB United League, Khimki lost the final game to CSKA Moscow.
