Tyler Shelvin, born on July 22, 1998, is an American professional football player. He plays as a nose tackle, which is a defensive position. Before becoming a pro, he played college football for LSU.

Early Life and High School Football

Tyler Shelvin grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. He started playing high school football at Northside High School. He was a versatile player, trying out different roles like kicker, punter, and defensive lineman. He also played basketball! In 2016, he was invited to the Under Armour Future 50, a special event for top young athletes.

Later, Tyler moved to Notre Dame High School in Crowley, Louisiana. He quickly became known as the best high school football recruit in Louisiana. Many experts, like 247Sports.com, rated him as a four-star prospect. On March 11, 2015, Tyler decided to play for Louisiana State University. He chose LSU over other big schools like Alabama and Nebraska. After his senior year, he played in the Under Armour All-America Game, which features the best high school players in the country.

College Football Career at LSU

When Tyler first joined LSU, he was a redshirt player. This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games during his first year. This allowed him to focus on his studies and get ready for college-level football.

In his second year, Tyler was a third-string nose tackle. He faced some challenges and was suspended for a couple of weeks. But he worked hard and earned his spot. By his third year, he became a starter on the team. In 2019, during his sophomore season, Tyler helped LSU win a huge prize: the national championship! On January 15, 2020, Tyler announced that he would stay at LSU for his junior season.

Professional Football Journey

Tyler Shelvin showed great skills during his college career. This led him to be drafted into the NFL.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals picked Tyler in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft. He was the 122nd player chosen overall. On May 17, he signed his first professional contract with the Bengals.

In his first year as a rookie, Tyler played in three regular season games. He made four tackles in a game against the Cleveland Browns. He also played in two playoff games for the Bengals, helping them win against the Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs. The Bengals made it all the way to Super Bowl LVI, but Tyler did not play in that championship game.

On August 30, 2022, the Bengals decided to release Tyler. However, they signed him to their practice squad the very next day. He was later released from the practice squad on December 6.

Tennessee Titans

On January 23, 2023, Tyler signed a new contract with the Tennessee Titans. This type of contract is called a "reserve/future" contract. He was later released by the Titans on August 29.
