Athletic Career Highlights
Tyree Washington was part of a very fast 4 × 400 meters relay team in 1998. They set a world record time of 2:54.20. His coach at the time was Antonio Pettigrew. Other runners on the team included Michael Johnson and Jerome Young.
Later, some members of the team were found to have broken rules about fair play in sports. Because of this, the world record was given to a different US team from 1993. This shows how important it is for athletes to follow all the rules.
World Championships Success
At the 2003 World Championships, Tyree Washington had some big moments. He first finished first in the 4 × 400 meters relay race. He also finished second in the 400 m individual race.
However, some of his teammates were later found to have broken rules. This meant that the 4 × 400 m relay team lost their medals. In 2008, after more reviews, Tyree was awarded the gold medal for the 400 m race. This happened because the athlete who originally finished first was disqualified.
Tyree's last major win was at the 2006 World Indoor Championships. He retired from competitive running in 2008. This was after he did not qualify for the US Olympic trials that year.
