The Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube is an exciting NASCAR Cup Series stock car race. It happens every year at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. This race is the first of two big NASCAR events held in Las Vegas each year. The other race, the South Point 400, takes place later in the season during the playoffs.
The very first Pennzoil 400 race was held in 1998. For many years, companies like United Auto Workers and DaimlerChrysler helped sponsor the event. Usually, the race covers a distance of 400 miles. However, in 2009, it was a bit longer, at 427 miles. This extra distance was added by the sponsors, Carroll Shelby International, as a special tribute.
A cool thing about this race is that the winner gets a special championship belt instead of a regular trophy! The race was also part of the "No Bull 5" challenge from 1999 to 2002. This challenge offered a big bonus prize to drivers who did well in certain races.

Race History and Sponsors
The Pennzoil 400 has had different names over the years because of its sponsors. From 2001 to 2008, Chrysler was a main sponsor. For the first six of those years, it was called the UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. This name showed the partnership between Chrysler and Daimler-Benz.
Later, when Daimler sold Chrysler, the race name changed to UAW-Dodge 400 for the 2008 race. In 2009 and 2010, Carroll Shelby International became the sponsor. The 2009 race was called the Shelby 427, and the 2010 race was known as the Shelby American.
After that, Lowe's, through its Kobalt Tools brand, became the main sponsor in 2011. The race was known as the Kobalt Tools 400 from 2011 to 2013. Then, it became the Kobalt 400 from 2014 to 2017. Finally, for the 2018 season, the race got its current name: the Pennzoil 400.
