Under Saddle Yoke is a cool hill found in the Moffat Hills in Scotland. These hills are part of the Southern Uplands. Even though its name suggests it's "under" Saddle Yoke, it's actually a bit taller! It stands about 10 meters higher than its neighbor, Saddle Yoke.
This hill sits in a really special spot. It's on a narrow, grassy ridge. This ridge is tucked between two deep valleys called Blackhope and Carrifran. From the top, you get amazing views of the other Moffat Hills. You can also see the Ettrick Hills across the way.
What Makes Under Saddle Yoke Special?
The ridge connecting Under Saddle Yoke and Saddle Yoke is quite unique. It's the narrowest hilltop ridge you'll find in the entire Southern Uplands. This makes hiking there feel exciting, even if it's not as steep as the huge mountains in the Scottish Highlands.
Hiking Adventures
Many people enjoy hiking in this area. A popular route is called the Hart Fell Horseshoe. This walk usually starts near a place called Blackshope. Hikers often go up Nether Coomb Craig first.
After that, the path leads over Swatte Fell and then to Hart Fell. The route then loops around Hartfell Rig. Finally, it reaches the Saddle Yokes before heading back down. It's a great way to explore several hills in one trip!
