Upplands Väsby Municipality (which in Swedish is Upplands Väsby kommun) is a special area in Stockholm County, located in the middle-east part of Sweden. It's like a local government area. In 2010, about 38,963 people lived there. The main town, or "seat," of this municipality is called Upplands Väsby.
This municipality was created in 1952. Back then, three smaller rural areas named Ed, Fresta, and Hammarby joined together. The new municipality got its name from a town that grew up around a railway station.
The name "Väsby" has been around since the 1200s. The word "Upplands" was added in 1919 by the post office. This helped people tell it apart from other places called Väsby in Sweden. For a while, it was called "Upplands-Väsby" with a dash, but the dash was removed on September 19, 2002.

Exploring Upplands Väsby's Location and Nature
Upplands Väsby is located between two important places: the big city of Stockholm and Arlanda Airport. A major railway line, the East Coast Line, runs right through the municipality. This means you can easily catch local trains to Arlanda Airport, Uppsala, Stockholm Central Station, and Älvsjö.
The land here is very fertile, meaning it's good for growing things. You'll also find forests and areas with moraine, which are hills made of rocks and soil left behind by glaciers. On the western side, the municipality touches a part of Mälaren lake. This lake also forms the border with Upplands-Bro Municipality.
There are other water areas too, like small rivers and lakes. One of these is the Väsbyån river, which flows through the town of Väsby. A special and uncommon fish called the asp lives in this river.
A Journey Through Upplands Väsby's History
Upplands Väsby is in the old province of Uppland. This area has a very long history, with signs of people living here since the Stone Age. Archeologists have also found Runestones and axes from the Bronze Age. In fact, there are 76 rune inscriptions found in the municipality! These are ancient writings carved into stones.
A big change happened in 1972 when Väsby Centrum was built. This is a large shopping center. When it opened, the number of people living in Väsby grew a lot. The mall currently has about 60 stores. It has also been expanded, adding even more stores over the years.
