The Story of Uverworld
How Uverworld Started (2000–2005)
The band we know as Uverworld first formed in 2002. Back then, they were called Sound Goku Road, or "Sangoku Road." They originally had seven members. They even released a demo CD called Prime'03, selling 3,000 copies!
Sadly, Ryohei, who was the main singer at first, left the band. After he left, another member, Ace∞Trigger, changed his name to TAKUYA∞. The band then changed its name to UVERworld, thanks to Akira's idea.
When the band made their big debut, their saxophonist, Seika, couldn't join them as a full member. Their record label didn't approve. But Seika didn't give up! He stayed as a support member and finally rejoined the band fully in 2014.
In 2005, Uverworld signed with Gr8! Records. This was a huge step! They released their first single, "D-tecnolife." This song became the second opening theme for the famous anime Bleach. The song was a big hit, reaching number four on the Japanese music charts. It sold 32,000 copies in its first week!
Three months later, their second single, "Chance!", was released. It was used for a PSP game called Bleach: Heat the Soul. This song also did well, reaching number five on the charts.
Growing Success (2006–2008)
On January 25, 2006, Uverworld released their third single, "Just Melody." A few weeks later, their first album, Timeless, came out. It broke into the Top 10, selling 60,000 copies! Seika, the saxophonist, even played on one song, "Yasashisa no Shizuku."
After a short break, they released "Colors of the Heart." This song became the third opening theme for the anime Blood+. It was a huge success, reaching number three on the charts. This was their highest-charting single at that time!
Their fifth single, "Shamrock", was released in August 2006. It was used as the ending theme for a Japanese TV show called Dance Drill. Their sixth single, "Kimi no Suki na Uta", came out in November 2006. This song was used for another TV show, Koi Suru Hanikami!. It became their second-highest charting single, reaching number two on the Oricon charts.
On February 21, 2007, Uverworld released their second album, Bugright. It included their recent hit singles. They also had a song, "Nagare, Kūkyo, This Word," on a tribute album for the movie Death Note.
The band's third album, Proglution, was released in January 2008. It had eighteen songs, including singles like "Ukiyo Crossing" and "Endscape". Proglution sold over 150,000 copies! Later in 2008, they released "Gekidō/Just Break the Limit!". "Gekidō" was the fourth opening theme for the anime D.Gray-man.
Their song "Hakanaku mo Towa no Kanashi" became their first number-one single on the Oricon charts! It was used as the opening for the second season of the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 anime. This single sold over 180,000 copies, making it their best-selling single ever.
New Albums and Tours (2009–2012)
In February 2009, Uverworld released their fourth album, Awakeve. It sold over 115,000 copies in its first week and reached number two on the charts. They also released a DVD of their live show at Nippon Budokan.
Their song "Go-On" was featured as an ending theme for the TV show House in Japan. They also performed at the Inazuma Rock Festival in their home prefecture, Shiga.
In October 2009, they released "Kanashimi wa Kitto" for a TV drama based on the book A Little Princess. Later that year, they released a "best of" album called Neo Sound Best.
Their fifteenth single, "Gold", came out in March 2010. Its music video was the first 3-D music video in Japan! Their fifth album, Last, was released two weeks later. Their song "Qualia" was an ending theme for the Mobile Suit Gundam 00 movie.
In 2011, their song "Core Pride" became the first opening theme for the anime Blue Exorcist. They released their sixth album, Life 6 Sense, in June 2011.
