Vanessa Karen White (born 30 October 1989) is an English singer. She became famous in 2008 as a member of the girl group The Saturdays. Vanessa started her career as a child actress in theatre. She performed in several shows in London's West End.
She played Young Nala in The Lion King. From 2000 to 2002, she was one of the King's daughters in The King and I. Vanessa tried to start a solo singing career before joining The Saturdays. She successfully auditioned for the group in 2007.
After Vanessa joined, The Saturdays began recording music. They released many hit songs. The group later signed a deal with Geffen Records after becoming very successful in the UK. They also signed with Island Def Jam Records and Mercury Records. This helped them share their music in the United States. Their song "What About Us" became their first UK number-one single. Vanessa's singing voice has been compared to famous singers like Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. She is the youngest member of The Saturdays.
While still with The Saturdays, Vanessa also worked on her own music projects. She sang on songs by Master Shortie and Vince Kidd. In 2014, The Saturdays took a break after their Greatest Hits Live! tour. Vanessa then started recording her own solo music. She worked with artists like Wretch 32. She has released two short music collections called EPs: Chapter One and Chapter Two.
Vanessa has also appeared on several TV shows. These include Chasing the Saturdays (2013), The Saturdays: 24/7 (2011), and Ghosthunting With... The Saturdays (2010). On her own, she was a contestant on Popstar to Operastar and I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here.

Vanessa's Early Life and Career
Growing Up and Starting Out
Vanessa White was born on October 30, 1989. She grew up with her older brother, Ryan, and younger sister, Celine. Like her bandmate Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays, Vanessa went to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. This school is in West London.
At the school, she was chosen to perform in big theatre shows in London's West End. These included The Lion King and The King and I. When she was 13, in 2003, she also appeared on the kids' version of Stars in Their Eyes. On the show, she performed as the singer Beyoncé.
Becoming a Star with The Saturdays (2007–2014)
Since 2007, Vanessa White has been a key member of the girl group The Saturdays. By October 2017, the group had achieved many successes. They had thirteen songs in the Top 10 and five albums in the Top 10.
The Saturdays released their first song, "If This Is Love", in July 2008. It reached number eight in the UK charts. Their next song, "Up", reached number five in the UK. It later earned a Silver Disc award. This means it sold a lot of copies.
In late October 2008, the group released their first album, Chasing Lights. Vanessa is known for her strong voice. Other band members even called her "our Christina Aguilera" because of her wide vocal range. She was the only member of The Saturdays to sing a solo part on every song of their first album. People have also compared her voice to American singers like Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, and Mariah Carey.
Chasing Lights reached number nine in the UK charts. It was certified Platinum by the BPI. This means it sold over 300,000 copies. The band released a third song from the album, "Issues", which also went Silver. They then released a cover of "Just Can't Get Enough". This song was originally by Depeche Mode. It debuted at number two in the UK.
The fifth and final song from the album was "Work". This was the first song by the group that did not reach the top 20. The group then went on a UK tour called The Work Tour. During the tour, in Dundee, Vanessa had an accident backstage. She tripped over a cable and hurt her ankle. This meant she missed a lot of the show that night. After paramedics helped her, she was able to join the group on stage in a wheelchair. For the next few shows, Vanessa sat on a bar stool. Slowly, she started to stand for more and more songs as her ankle healed.
In October 2009, the group released their second album, Wordshaker. It reached number nine in the charts and was certified Silver. The first song from this album, "Forever Is Over", reached number two in the UK. By this time, The Saturdays were appearing in many advertisements. They promoted deodorant, mobile phones, and hair removal products. In early 2010, the girls released "Ego", the second and final song from their second album. It reached number nine and was certified Silver.
In summer 2010, The Saturdays released Headlines!, which was like a mini-album. It reached number 3 in the UK and number 10 in Ireland. The band released their eighth song, "Missing You". It reached number three in the UK and number six in Ireland. Band member Rochelle Wiseman confirmed that the next song would be "Higher". It was later announced that the rapper Flo Rida had recorded vocals for "Higher".
On Your Radar was the girls' third studio album. It reached number 23 in the UK. It only stayed in the UK Top 75 for three weeks. However, it included top-ten hits like "All Fired Up" and "Notorious". It also featured the song "My Heart Takes Over". In December 2011, the group went on their first big arena tour, the All Fired Up Tour!
The first song from their fourth album was "30 Days". It was released in May 2012 and reached number seven. Later that year, they moved from London to Los Angeles for a while. They hoped to become famous in America. To help sell their music there, E! Network showed Chasing The Saturdays. This was a reality TV show that followed the girls during their three months in America. The show started in January 2013 but ended after one season.
The band released "What About Us" in March 2013. This song featured rapper Sean Paul. It became their first number one single. It was also the best-selling single of that year at the time. Later in the year, "Gentleman" and "Disco Love" were released. Both of these songs reached the top 15. Their album Living for the Weekend became the band's fourth album to reach the top ten.
The last song from the album was "Not Giving Up". The radio mix of this song was released in April 2014. It was their seventeenth song to reach the top 40. The band took a break in 2014. They released a greatest hits album called Finest Selection: The Greatest Hits in the same year. The only new song from this album, "What Are You Waiting For?", reached number thirty-seven. This was their lowest-charting song so far.
