Vannes OC facts for kids
Vannes Olympique Club, often called Vannes, is a French football club from the city of Vannes. The team was created in 1998 when two older clubs, Véloce vannetais (from 1911) and FC Vannes (from 1946), joined together. Today, Vannes plays in Championnat National 3, which is the fifth level of professional football in France. They play their home games at the Stade de la Rabine stadium in Vannes.
In 2002, the club hired Stéphane Le Mignan as their manager. Under his leadership, Vannes had some great years. They reached the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France in 2007 and won the Championnat National title in 2008. They even made it to the final of the Coupe de la Ligue in 2009. From 2008 to 2011, they played in Ligue 2, a higher division. After Le Mignan left in 2012, the club faced financial problems in 2014. They had to restart in a lower league but quickly moved up three divisions in just four years!

Club History and Achievements
How Vannes OC Was Formed
The Vannes Olympique Club was created in 1998. It was a merger of two older football teams from Vannes. These teams were Véloce vannetais, which started in 1911, and FC Vannes, which began in 1946. Joining forces helped them create a stronger club.
Rising Through the Ranks
In November 2002, Stéphane Le Mignan, a former player, became the manager of Vannes. He helped the team move up from the fourth division, called Championnat de France Amateur, to the Championnat National (the third division) in 2005. This was a big step for the club.
Exciting Cup Runs
Vannes had an exciting journey in the 2006–07 Coupe de France. They won against Ligue 2 team Montpellier to reach the quarter-finals. However, they then lost to the famous Ligue 1 team Marseille.
The team also made history in the Coupe de la Ligue. They beat top-tier teams like Valenciennes, Auxerre, and Nice. This led them to the final in 2009, where they played against Bordeaux at the Stade de France. Vannes lost the final 4–0, but reaching such a big game was a huge achievement for the club.
Playing in Ligue 2
In 2008, Vannes won the 2007–08 Championnat National title. This victory meant they were promoted to Ligue 2 for the very first time! They played in this higher division for three seasons. In the 2010–11 Ligue 2 season, they finished 18th and were unfortunately relegated back to the third division. This also meant their budget for the next season was cut, and many players had to leave.
Rebuilding the Club
After more than ten years, manager Stéphane Le Mignan left the club in December 2012. In June 2014, Vannes faced a difficult time and had to declare bankruptcy. This meant they had to restart in a much lower league, the seventh division, in the Brittany Region.
Despite this setback, the club showed great spirit. They won the regional Division d'Honneur in 2016, moving up to the fifth level of French football. They continued their climb, winning the Championnat National 3 in the 2017–18 season. In the 2022–23 season, they were relegated again after a loss to Rouen.
