Vansbro Municipality (also called Vansbro kommun in Swedish) is a local area in central Sweden. It's found in Dalarna County. The main town, or "seat," where the local government is, is called Vansbro.
In 1971, a big change happened in local government. Three areas named Järna, Nås, and Äppelbo joined together. This created the new Vansbro Municipality. The name for the new municipality came from the town of Vansbro, which also became its main center.
The coat of arms for Vansbro Municipality has three symbols. It shows a sign for iron, an axe, and a sword. The axe represents the important wood industries in the area.

Early Iron Production
Around the town of Järna, people have found old ovens from the Viking Age or even earlier. These ovens show that iron was processed here a very long time ago. This history of iron might even be how Järna got its name, as Järn means iron in Swedish.
Old Parishes and Villages
Records show that Nås parish was first mentioned in the year 1479. Järna parish was noted even earlier, in 1417. Äppelbo was known as Äppelboda parish in 1417.
Military History in Äppelbo
Äppelbo, which means "Apple Village," was important in the 1690s. It was the base for the Västerdal regiment, a military group. Famous Swedish kings like Charles XII and Gustaf IV Adolf used soldiers from this area when they fought battles across Europe.
Rise of Wood Industries
Modern iron works started in the early 1800s but didn't last long. By the end of that century, the main industry became wood. Around 1900, three large sawmills were built in Vansbro. This made the town grow and become very successful. When the railroad came through Vansbro in 1898, it made it even easier for businesses to transport goods.
