Varberg Municipality (which is called Varbergs kommun in Swedish) is a local area or district in Halland County, located in the southwest part of Sweden. The main town and administrative center of the municipality is Varberg.
This municipality was created in 1971. It was formed by joining the City of Varberg with several smaller towns and villages from the surrounding countryside. In total, 25 original local government areas came together to form the current municipality.
Many people who live in Varberg Municipality travel to work or study in other cities. About 5,000 people commute out, mostly to Gothenburg and Falkenberg. At the same time, about 3,200 people travel into Varberg Municipality for work or other activities.
