Early Life and Starting Her Career
Veronika Vařeková grew up in Olomouc, a city that was part of Czechoslovakia when she was born. Today, Olomouc is in the Czech Republic. When she was 19 years old, Veronika decided to move to New York City in the United States. She planned to study at the Parsons School of Design, a famous art and design school.
Soon after arriving in New York, Veronika met with a modeling agency called Next Models. They were very impressed and signed her right away. This was the start of her exciting career in modeling.
Modeling Success and Magazine Covers
Veronika quickly became a successful model. She appeared on the covers of many well-known magazines. One of her most famous appearances was on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2004. She was also featured in this special swimsuit edition a total of eight times between 1999 and 2007.
Many famous photographers worked with Veronika, including Patrick Demarchelier and Peter Lindbergh. She also appeared in advertising campaigns for big brands like Gap, Chanel, Guess, and Victoria's Secret. Her face was seen in ads for Nivea, Escada, and Pantene too.
Besides magazines and ads, Veronika also appeared on popular TV shows. She was a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She also appeared on news channels like CNN and Fox and Friends.
Helping Wildlife and Her Community
In 2004, Veronika married Petr Nedvěd, who was a professional ice-hockey player from the Czech Republic. Their marriage ended in 2006.
Veronika is also very passionate about helping others and protecting nature. In 2008, she climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, which is the tallest mountain in Africa. During this trip, she met a team from the African Wildlife Foundation in Tanzania. This meeting inspired her to get involved. In October 2009, she became a Goodwill Ambassador for the African Wildlife Foundation. This means she helps to spread awareness and support their work in protecting animals and their habitats in Africa.
Veronika also volunteers her time at the SZPD Orphanage in her hometown of Olomouc. She helps children who need support and care.
Today, Veronika lives in New York City. However, she also spends time in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, to be close to her family and friends.
