Vicky Krieps was born on 4 October 1983 in Hesperange, Luxembourg. Her father, Bob Krieps, managed a film distribution company. He was also a director at the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg. Her paternal grandfather, Robert Krieps, was a politician. He was also a member of the Luxembourg Resistance during wartime.
Vicky Krieps first started acting at the Lycée de Garçons de Luxembourg school. She also trained at the Conservatoire de Luxembourg. Instead of going straight to drama school, she worked on a social project. This project was at a primary school in a South African township. This experience made her even more determined to study acting. She wanted to perform on theater stages.

In May 2025, Krieps married Lazaros Gounaridis. He is a film production assistant from Greece. They met in 2023 while working on the film Hot Milk (2025).
