Victoria sur le Parc is a very tall building, called a skyscraper, being built in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It's a 'mixed-use' building, meaning it will have different kinds of spaces inside.
It's named 'Victoria sur le Parc' because it's located right next to Victoria Square in the heart of downtown Montreal. When it's finished in 2023, Victoria sur le Parc will be the tallest building in Montreal where people live. It will also be one of the three tallest buildings in the whole city, tied with another building called 800 Saint-Jacques Street West.
Where is Victoria sur le Parc?
Victoria sur le Parc is located in Montreal, at the corner of Robert-Bourassa Boulevard and Rue Saint-Jacques. This area is part of the Cité du Multimédia neighbourhood.
The building is very close to several important places. It's only about 300 meters from Victoria Square, Place Bonaventure, and Gare Centrale. You can also easily get to the underground part of Autoroute 720 from here.
How Victoria sur le Parc Was Built
In January 2018, a large piece of land next to the Tour de la Bourse was bought by a company called Broccolini. They paid $100 million for the land. Part of this land was later sold to the National Bank for their new main office building. Before this, the land had a few small buildings and a parking lot.
Construction of Victoria sur le Parc started on April 30, 2019. However, work had to stop for a short time in March 2020. This was because of health concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic. Luckily, construction started again on May 11, and the building is still expected to be finished by 2023.
Building Design and Features
Victoria sur le Parc will have a shiny glass outside. It will also have a special diamond-shaped roof that slopes down towards the Saint Lawrence River. This design is a bit like the roof of the Crain Communications Building in Chicago.
The building has two main parts:
- A 9-story base, called a 'podium'. This part will have over 30,000 square meters of space for shops and offices.
- A 49-story tower on top. This tower will have 400 different homes or apartments for people to live in.
