How to Play: Gameplay Modes
This game has two main ways to play: Arcade mode and Adventure mode.
Arcade Mode
In Arcade mode, you just race against other cars on different tracks. It's a simple way to jump into the action and enjoy the races.
Adventure Mode
Adventure mode is a bit different. You race to earn special 'gold stars' or 'Wacky Trial clocks'. These help you unlock more tracks, new abilities for your car, and exciting challenges.
- Wacky Trial Clocks: You get these when you win a race in a certain amount of time. They are important for unlocking special boss challenges.
- Gold Stars: You need gold stars to unlock new tracks and areas in the game. You earn them by winning different events.
Once you collect 10 gold stars, a special "Boss Area" opens up. Here, you get to race against one of three "elite" cars. These include Professor Pat Pending's Convert-a-Car, the Red Max's Crimson Haybailer, and the Mean Machine. Dick Dastardly and Muttley are the main bosses in the game. Their power-ups are often designed to attack other racers!
Cool Gadgets and Tokens
As you race, you can use awesome gadgets! These include:
- An explosive mine you can drop on the road.
- A burst of turbo speed.
- A temporary ability to fly.
- A short time where you are invincible (can't be hurt).
You'll see pink discs called "Tokens" floating on the track. When you pick them up, they give power to your gadgets. They also let you choose which gadget to use. Once you use a token, it shoots out the back of your car. Other drivers can then pick it up and use it themselves!
Cars and Tracks
All the vehicles and drivers from the original Wacky Races cartoon are in the game. However, only eight cars can race at once. The vehicles are sorted into 5 groups based on how fast they can speed up, their top speed, and how well they handle turns. The game features four cool themed levels:
- A desert with Wild West towns and coal mines.
- Snowy mountain towns.
- A Wacky Races version of Mount Rushmore.
- A big city with race tracks on rooftops!
Voice Cast
Many talented voice actors brought the characters to life in the game:
- Gregg Berger - Narrator
- Greg Burson - Red Max, Sergeant Blast, Peter Perfect, Rufus Ruffcut
- Jim Cummings - Dick Dastardly, Rock Slag, Gravel Slag, Big Gruesome, Private Meekly, Clyde
- Janet Waldo - Penelope Pitstop
- Billy West - Muttley, Little Gruesome
- Scott Innes - Professor Pat Pending
- John Stephenson - Luke
Fun Facts
This game is special because it lets players do something that almost never happened in the cartoon: Dick Dastardly can actually win a race! If you play as him and win, the narrator sounds surprised or even a bit annoyed. Dick Dastardly himself is usually very happy and shocked to finally win a race!
Wacky Races: Starring Dastardly and Muttley
This version of the game was only released in PAL regions. These are areas like Europe, Australia, and parts of Asia.
