Wakefield is a small community in Pennsylvania, United States. It is located in Lancaster County, within Fulton Township. Even though it's not a city or town with its own government, it's recognized as a census-designated place (CDP). This means the U.S. Census Bureau counts its population separately.
In 2010, about 609 people lived in Wakefield. It is the biggest community that uses the "Peach Bottom" ZIP code. The local post office is found on Pennsylvania Route 272, just north of the community.

Where is Wakefield Located?
Wakefield is in the southern part of Lancaster County. It sits in the north-central area of Fulton Township. The Wakefield CDP includes the main area of Wakefield and another community called Penn Hill, which is to the north.
Main Roads and Travel
Penn Hill is where two important highways meet: Pennsylvania Route 272 (PA 272) and U.S. Route 222 (US 222).
- Both highways go north to Lancaster, which is the main city of the county.
- PA 272 is a more direct route, about 20 miles long, going through Buck.
- US 222 takes a slightly longer route, about 24 miles, curving through Quarryville and rejoining PA 272 near Willow Street.
Travel to Neighboring States
- If you travel south from Wakefield on US 222, you will reach U.S. Route 1 in Maryland in about 7.5 miles. This is just north of the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River.
- Going east from Wakefield on PA 272, you will reach US 1 in Nottingham in about 9 miles.
Land and Water Features
The U.S. Census Bureau says that the Wakefield CDP covers a total area of about 4.4 square kilometers (about 1.7 square miles). A very small part of this area, about 0.02 square kilometers (0.008 square miles), is water. This means that about 0.45% of Wakefield is covered by water.
Local Waterways
Wakefield is located on a ridge, which is like a long, raised area of land.
- Water on the west side of the ridge flows into Puddle Duck Creek. This creek then leads to Peters Creek and eventually joins the Susquehanna River.
- Water on the east side of the ridge flows into Conowingo Creek. This creek also joins the Susquehanna River, but it does so in Maryland.
