Watson is a small town located in Lewis County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,802 people lived there. The town got its name from an early landowner named James Watson. It sits on the eastern edge of Lewis County, just east of Lowville, which is the main town of the county.

History of Watson
People first started settling in the area of Watson around 1815. The town of Watson was officially created in 1821. It was formed from a part of the town of Leyden.
Over the years, parts of Watson were used to create other nearby towns. These included Greig in 1828, Diana in 1830, Croghan in 1841, and New Bremen in 1848.
Geography of Watson
Watson is a pretty big town! It covers about 115.7 square miles (299.65 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 112.7 square miles (291.99 square kilometers). The rest, about 3.0 square miles (7.67 square kilometers), is water.
The eastern border of Watson touches Herkimer County. The Black River helps form part of the town's western border.
The Beaver River flows through the northern part of Watson. This river eventually joins the Black River. A large part of eastern Watson is located inside the beautiful Adirondack Park.

The number of people living in Watson has changed over many years. In 1830, there were 909 people. The population grew to 1,707 by 1840. After that, it went down for a while, reaching a low of 528 people in 1930.
