Wattleup is a suburb located in the southern part of Perth, Western Australia. It is part of the City of Cockburn. In the past, Wattleup was known for its many market gardens. These gardens grew fresh produce for the nearby city of Fremantle.
In the mid-1990s and early 2000s, there were plans to change Wattleup. This project was called the Hope Valley-Wattleup Redevelopment Project, also known as "Latitude 32". The idea was to buy the land where the town was, then take down the buildings. After that, the land would be used for industrial purposes instead of homes. The old town area of Wattleup was at the western end of the suburb. It was located where Wattleup Road and Rockingham Road meet.
How Wattleup Got Its Name
The name "Wattleup" comes from Wattleup Road. This road has been around since 1931. The name "Wattleup" was officially approved for the suburb in May 1962.
