Waverly is a city in Morgan County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1836. Waverly is the second largest city in Morgan County. In 2020, about 1,194 people lived there. The city is part of the larger Jacksonville area. Waverly got its name from the Waverley novels by the famous writer Sir Walter Scott.

Where is Waverly?

Waverly is located in the southeastern part of Morgan County. It is about 26 miles southwest of Springfield. Springfield is the capital city of Illinois.

Roads and Travel

Illinois Route 104 goes through Waverly. It is known as Elm Street in the city. This road leads northwest to Jacksonville. Jacksonville is about 19 miles away and is the main city of the county. Route 104 also goes east to Auburn, which is about 11 miles away. Another road, Illinois Route 111, starts in Waverly. It goes south to Palmyra, about 11 miles away.

Land and Water

Waverly covers an area of about 1.04 square miles. All of this area is land. Most of the city's water drains into Apple Creek. This creek flows west and joins the Illinois River. A small part of the city's northeast side drains into Lick Creek. This creek is part of the Sangamon River system.
