How Welcome Got Its Name

The city was named after Alfred M. Welcome. He was a homesteader, which means he was one of the first people to settle and farm the land here. His farm was on the southwest side of what became the city.

Local Newspaper and Schools

For many years, Welcome had its own newspaper called The Welcome Times. It was printed from 1895 until 1969. After that, it joined with another local paper. In 1988, the schools in Welcome teamed up with schools from nearby Sherburn and Trimont. They formed a bigger school system called the Martin County West School District.

Police Department Changes

Later, in 1999, Welcome's police department also joined forces with Sherburn's. This created a combined police department for both towns.
