History of Ceylon

Ceylon was officially planned and marked out in 1899. It got its name from the island of Ceylon, which was a British colony at the time. Today, that island is the country of Sri Lanka.

A post office has been open in Ceylon since 1899. The story goes that a group of men were in Tom Sahr's general store. They needed a name for the new place. Since the name "Chanhassen" was already being used, someone suggested "Ceylon" because of the boxes of Ceylon tea in the store.
