West Kensington is a lively neighborhood in the northern part of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. It's located just north of another area called Olde Kensington. A special elevated train line, the Market Frankford El, runs above Front Street and helps mark the border between West Kensington and its neighbor, Kensington.

West Kensington is surrounded by other neighborhoods. To its east is Kensington, to its west is Hartranft, and to its south is Olde Kensington. Its main borders are Front Street on the east, 6th Street on the west, Cecil B. Moore Avenue on the south, and Lehigh Avenue on the north.

Who Lives in West Kensington?

West Kensington is a diverse neighborhood with many different people. In 2010, most residents were of Hispanic background, especially Puerto Ricans and Dominicans. There are also many African Americans living here.

Historically, the neighborhood was home to many Irish-American families. Today, you can still find significant populations of Irish Americans and Italian Americans alongside the newer communities.
