West Point is a small community in Calaveras County, California. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a special area the government uses to collect information about people. In 2020, about 688 people lived there. West Point is also known as California Historical Landmark #268. Every year, the community hosts a fun event called West Point Lumberjack Days.

History of West Point
West Point got its name from a camp set up by a famous scout named Kit Carson. He was exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains looking for a way through.
The town was first started in 1852. It was called Indian Gulch back then. In 1854, its name was changed to West Point. The first post office opened in 1856. The name changed to Westpoint in 1895, but then changed back to West Point in 1947.
Long ago, West Point was a busy trading post. This was even before gold was found in the area. People would travel there to buy and sell goods. A well-known writer, Bret Harte, lived in West Point for a while.
