Western is a small town in Oneida County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,951 people lived here.
The Town of Western is located inside Oneida County. It is found north of the city of Rome.

History of Western
People first started settling in the area around 1789. The Town of Western was officially created in 1797. It was formed from a part of the Town of Steuben. Later, in 1811, a section of Western was used to create the newer Town of Lee.
Life in Western Today
Western is a quiet community. The Western Town Library offers fun programs for both kids and adults. There is also a local historical society. They host talks and events for people interested in the town's past.
There are two churches in the area. The First Presbyterian Church is in Westernville. The United Methodist Church is in North Western.
The town used to have an event called Heritage Days. The last one was held in 2012.

Geography of Western
The town of Western covers about 54.7 square miles (141.6 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 51.4 square miles (132.6 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 3.3 square miles (8.97 square kilometers), is water.
A large lake called Delta Reservoir is mostly located in the southwestern part of the town. It is also known as Delta Lake.

Notable People from Western
- George Washington Gale lived on a farm here in the 1820s. He taught students who wanted to become ministers. These students, like Theodore Weld and Charles Grandison Finney, helped him with farm work. This farm was an early version of the Oneida Institute of Science and Industry, which Gale later started in Whitesboro.
