The very first school in Lee was built where the Methodist Church now stands. It was called Lee Center School – District 3, and later became District 1. This school stayed open until 1957, when it joined the Rome District Schools. The building was used for storage for a while before it was taken down in 1960.

Another important early schoolhouse was the Stone Schoolhouse-District 5. It was located at the corner of Streun Road and Point Rock Road. This school also held classes until the 1957 merger. Students then moved to the Lee Center school until it closed in 1960.

There was also a schoolhouse at the corner of Lorena Road and Sleepy Hollow Road. Interestingly, the property lines showed that half of this building was in Rome and the other half was in Lee Center.
