Westmar is a rural locality. The Moonie River flows through the northern part of this area. The Moonie Highway also passes through the southern part. Most of the land in Westmar is used for farming. There is also a forest called Kinkora State Forest on the eastern side.

Early Schools
Beardmore Provisional School first opened on August 29, 1960. It was located in a place called Cooroorah. This school became Beardmore State School on March 29, 1963. It taught students for many years before closing on December 5, 1997.
Westmar State School opened a bit later, on March 7, 1962.
Remembering Heroes
In 2009, a special memorial was put up at Westmar State School. This memorial honors people from the area. It remembers those who died while serving in military conflicts.
