This summit is about 201 meters (659 feet) above sea level. It is home to the largest park in Westmount. This park covers about 23 hectares (57 acres) of land. From a special lookout on the south side, you can see amazing views. You can see Westmount, Montreal, the south shore, and the Eastern Townships.
The Summit Woods: A Nature Haven
The land on Westmount Summit has a long history. In the late 1800s, McGill University owned this area. They used it as a botanical garden, which is a place for growing and studying plants.
A Home for Birds
In the early 1900s, McGill University gave the land to the City of Westmount. They had one important rule: the land had to become a bird sanctuary. This means it is a safe place where birds can live and be protected. Today, about 180 different kinds of birds live on Westmount Summit.
Plants and Flowers
Besides birds, the summit woods are also home to many wild plants and flowers. It is a great place to see nature up close. The summit woods are surrounded by Summit Circle, a well-known residential street in Westmount.
