A Look at Weston Mills History
Weston Mills was started by the Weston family. Three brothers from this family built a mill here, which is how the community got its name. The original home of the Weston family is now owned by the government. It is used as a group home today.
The name of the community has changed a bit over time. It was likely called Weston's Mills or Westons Mills at first. An old map from 1869 even shows it as "Westonville." Later, a U.S. President named Benjamin Harrison wanted to make post office names more standard. He suggested removing extra possessive forms, like the apostrophe "s." So, the name became Weston Mills.
However, in the 1960s, a store opened using the name "Weston's." Because of this, people slowly started adding the "s" back into the name when they talked about the area.
