White Bluff has had several schools over the years. The first public school was sadly destroyed by fire in 1879.
Today, White Bluff has two main schools:
- White Bluff Elementary School
- Williams James School
The original William James school building was built in 1923. The land for the school was given by Colonel William James. He was an officer from the Spanish–American War. The school's sports teams are called the "Colonels" in his honor. Colonel James is even buried inside the current school building.
The 1923 building was taken down after the 1971–1972 school year. For many years, all twelve grades were taught at the William James site. In 1972, it became a junior high school for grades 7-9. Later, in the 1999–2000 school year, it changed to a middle school for grades 6-8. This is why it is now called William James Middle School.
