Whitney Cummings (born September 4, 1982) is a talented American comedian, actress, writer, producer, director, and podcaster. She is known for her stand-up comedy and for creating popular TV shows.
After finishing college in 2004, Whitney moved to Los Angeles to start her career. She appeared in a movie called EMR and on MTV's show Punk'd. Whitney is also a successful stand-up comedian. Variety magazine even named her one of "10 Comics to Watch" in 2007. She has also been part of special comedy shows called Comedy Central Roasts.
Whitney helped create the funny TV show 2 Broke Girls. She also starred in and produced her own show called Whitney. Later, she directed a comedy film called The Female Brain in 2017.

Early Life and Education
Whitney Cummings was born on September 4, 1982, in Washington, D.C.. Her mom, Patti Cummings, worked in public relations. Her dad, Eric Lynn Cummings, was a lawyer. Whitney has an older half-brother named Kevin and an older sister named Ashley. Her parents got divorced when she was five years old.
When she was 12, Whitney lived with her aunt for a while in Virginia. She also spent summers in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Her dad worked there at the Hill Top House Hotel. Whitney went to St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland. She graduated in 2000. While in high school, she worked at a TV station in Washington, D.C. She also studied acting at Studio Theater.
After high school, Whitney went to the University of Pennsylvania. She studied Communications there. During college, she worked as a model in department stores. She graduated with honors in 2004. At first, she wanted to be a journalist.
Whitney's Comedy Career
Starting Out in Comedy (2004–2010)
After college, Whitney moved to Los Angeles. In 2004, she worked on the MTV show Punk'd. That same year, she was in the movie EMR, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Whitney started doing stand-up comedy in 2004.
In 2007, Variety magazine recognized her as one of the "10 Comics to Watch." She also tried out for Last Comic Standing in 2008. Whitney was a regular guest on the E! show Chelsea Lately from 2007 to 2014. Entertainment Weekly named her one of 12 Rising Stars of Comedy in 2008. She also performed in Comedy Central Roasts for famous people like Joan Rivers and Donald Trump.
TV Shows, Specials, and Books (2011–Present)
In 2011, Whitney created two TV shows. One was 2 Broke Girls, which she co-created and produced. The other was Whitney, where she also starred. The show Whitney was a big learning experience for her. It ran for two seasons until 2013. While working on Whitney, she also hosted a talk show called Love You, Mean It with Whitney Cummings on E! in 2012.
In June 2014, Whitney released her second hour-long comedy special called I Love You on Comedy Central. Her third special, "I'm Your Girlfriend," came out on HBO in 2016.
In 2017, Whitney acted in the movie Unforgettable. Her show 2 Broke Girls finished after six seasons that same year. Whitney also directed her first movie, The Female Brain (2017), and she starred in it too.
Also in 2017, Whitney published her first book, I'm Fine...And Other Lies. It's a collection of personal stories from her life.
From 2018, Whitney worked as a head writer and producer for the TV show Roseanne. She left the show before it ended.
Her fourth hour-long comedy special, Can I Touch It?, was released on Netflix in 2019. In this special, she even brings out a robot that looks just like her!
On November 5, 2019, Whitney started her first podcast called Good for You. She talks with many different guests, including comedians, actors, and journalists. Fans enjoy her conversations, especially with fellow comedian Nikki Glaser.
Whitney was also a guest on the first episode of Talk Tuah in September 2024.
Personal Life
In June 2023, Whitney shared that she was going to have a baby. She gave birth to her son in December 2023.
Comedy Inspirations
Whitney has talked about the comedians who inspired her. She admired Paul Reiser for his funny observations about everyday things. She also looked up to George Carlin, who taught her to "question everything." Other comedians who influenced her include Dave Attell, Lenny Bruce, and Bill Hicks.
