Famous People and Old Homes
A famous Southern writer named George Washington Harris is buried in Wildwood. He lived from 1814 to 1869. Harris was known for his funny stories about the South. He greatly influenced other famous writers like Mark Twain and William Faulkner.
For a long time, his grave was not clearly marked. But in 2008, a special monument was placed there.
Right across the street from Brock Cemetery is Belvedere Plantation. This old house was built around 1835. It is one of the oldest homes from before the American Civil War that is still standing in the Chattanooga area.
