Wimbish is a small village in the countryside, found about 6 kilometers (4 miles) south-east of Saffron Walden. It is located in the Uttlesford area of Essex, which is in the East of England.
People first wrote about Wimbish in 1042, calling it "Winebisc." Later, in a very old book called the Domesday Book, it was known as "Wimbeis." The village has its own primary school, called Wimbish Primary School, and a church named All Saints. The church tower was damaged by lightning in 1756. It was rebuilt with bricks, but then taken down again in 1883.
How Wimbish is Governed
Wimbish is part of a larger area called Wimbish and Debden. This area is an electoral ward, which means it's a section used for voting. In 2011, about 2,407 people lived in this ward.
What is an Electoral Ward?
An electoral ward is like a local neighborhood or district. It is used to help organize elections. People living in a ward vote for their representatives. These representatives then help make decisions for the local community.
