Windthorst is a small town in Texas, United States. It is located in both Archer and Clay counties. In 2020, about 342 people lived there.

The town is named after Ludwig Windthorst. He was an important Catholic politician from Germany.

Windthorst is also home to the St. Mary's Grotto. This is an outdoor Catholic shrine. It was built with money sent by 64 soldiers from Windthorst. These soldiers served in World War II. Amazingly, all 64 of them returned home safely. A new entrance to the shrine was built in 2009.

Windthorst is in northern Texas. Most of it is in Archer County. A small part extends into Clay County.

U.S. Route 281 goes right through the town. This road leads north about 25 miles to Wichita Falls. It goes southeast about 33 miles to Jacksboro.

Texas State Highway 25 goes west from Windthorst. It leads about 11 miles to Archer City. Archer City is the main town of Archer County.

The town covers a total area of about 2.56 square miles (6.6 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.06 square miles (0.16 square kilometers), is water.
