Winton is a community in Merced County, California, United States. It is known as a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it is a community that is recognized for counting people, even though it does not have its own city government. Winton is located about 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Atwater, California. It is also about 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Merced, which is the main city of the county.
Winton was first created along the original Santa Fe Railroad line. In the past, passenger trains used to stop here. The community has had a few different names over time, including Merced Colony No. 1, Merced Colony No. 2, and Windfield.
As of the 2020 census, Winton had a population of 11,709 people. This was an increase from 10,613 people counted in 2010.

Winton is located in the northern part of Merced County. Its exact location is 37°23.3′N 120°36.8′W.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the community covers a total area of 3.0 square miles (7.8 square kilometers). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large bodies of water within its borders.
History
The Winton post office first opened in 1912. It was moved from a nearby place called Yam. The community was named after J.E. Winton, who was a surveyor for the county.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Winton was home to the Winton Wrestling Alliance (WWA). This was a local group that organized fun, informal wrestling events.
