Wolfgang Böhmer (born January 27, 1936 – died June 29, 2025) was an important German politician. He was a member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party. From 2002 to 2011, he served as the 5th Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt, which is like being the head of government for that German state. He also led the Bundesrat (a council representing Germany's states) for a year. Before his political career, he worked as a medical doctor.

Wolfgang Böhmer was born in Dürrhennersdorf, a town in Saxony, Germany. He joined the CDU party in East Germany in 1990. This was a time of big changes as Germany was reuniting.

Böhmer became a key figure in the politics of Saxony-Anhalt. He focused on making the economy stronger in his state. He was elected Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt in 2002. He held this important role until 2011.

From November 2002 to October 2003, Wolfgang Böhmer was the President of the Bundesrat. The Bundesrat is a special council in Germany where representatives from each state work together. Being its President is a very significant national role.

Later Life and Recognition

Wolfgang Böhmer was also an Honorary Member of The International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation. This foundation works to promote peace and human rights. He passed away on June 29, 2025, at the age of 89.
