What Woody Creek Looks Like
The heart of Woody Creek is a log cabin built in the 1940s. This cabin was originally owned by the Lee Jones family. Today, it's home to the famous Woody Creek Tavern, a well-known local spot. The cabin also houses the Woody Creek Community Center.
The cabin is on a county road, a little hidden from the main State Highway 82. Nearby, you'll find a trailer park and various homes. Some are older and more modest, while others are newer and quite fancy.
Famous People and Culture in Woody Creek
Woody Creek has been home to many interesting people. The famous writer Hunter S. Thompson lived here for a long time. Several other celebrities and musicians have also called Woody Creek home. These include the late broadcaster Ed Bradley, Don Henley from the Eagles, John Oates of Hall and Oates, and Jimmy Ibbotson from The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Actor Don Johnson also lived here.
Currently, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has a winter home in Woody Creek. This means she stays there during the colder months.
