Wrestling was a big part of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics. This exciting event happened from October 12th to 14th. Athletes from all over the world gathered to compete. The wrestling matches took place at the Asia Pavilion in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

How Athletes Qualified

To wrestle at the Youth Olympics, athletes had to qualify first. Each country's Olympic team could send up to six wrestlers. This included two boys for Freestyle, two boys for Greco-Roman, and two girls for Freestyle.

Since Argentina was the host country, they automatically got three spots. These spots were for one wrestler in each style, if they competed in a special championship. Also, 12 more athletes (8 boys and 4 girls) were chosen by a special committee.

Most of the other 95 athletes (50 boys and 45 girls) earned their spots through five big competitions. These were held in different parts of the world. For boys, one athlete from each continent qualified. For girls, the top three from Europe, top two from Asia and the Americas, and the top one from Africa and Oceania qualified.

To be old enough to compete, wrestlers had to be born between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2003.
