How Wynn Vale Began: A Look at Its History
Wynn Vale and Golden Grove were originally part of a large property. This property was called Modbury Estate. It was a winery owned by S. Wynn & Company. The winery grew white grapes. These grapes were used to make different types of wines.
In 1972, the South Australian government created a group. This group was called the South Australian Land Commission. Their job was to find land. They needed land to build many new homes for Adelaide's growing population. On October 17, 1974, this commission bought 390 hectares of land in the area.
More than 10 years later, on December 20, 1984, two groups became partners. These were Delfin and the South Australian Urban Land Trust. They worked together to develop the land. Building work started in May 1985. The suburb of Wynn Vale was named after S. Wynn, who owned the original winery.
